Quality Scales Unlimited executed another truck scale replacement project in just two days!

A mining company located on Mt. Diablo had a truck scale that was nearing the end of its usable life. To replace the truck scale, we removed the old, worn truck scale and installed a new, customized Rice Lake OTR Truck Scale on the existing concrete scale foundation.

QSU was able to provide the incredible two day turnaround time because we were able to work with the manufacturer (Rice Lake Weighing Systems) to have the truck scale customized to fit into the existing scales foundation. We worked with the existing pier size and length, so we would not have to create a new foundation which can add additional time to the overall project. Foundations require constructing, forming, pouring and a cure time of a few weeks to complete. Like many of our customers, they rely heavily on this scale for their truck weighments on a daily basis, so they can’t afford the scale being down for long periods of time.

Additional customizations to this truck scale include: MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) required double-high side rails and 3/8” tread plate runners. The side rails help keep the extremely heavy trucks crossing the scale from driving off the weighbridge. The tread plate runners are factory installed 3/8” diamond plate that is welded to the scale deck. The additional steel will dramatically extend the life of the scale by keeping the abrasive materials from wearing down the deck of the scale.

The new truck scale will ensure that their operation will continue to function efficiently while preventing future issues and possible downtime that can accompany an older scale.
