Conveyor Belt Scales

Conveyor belt scales, more commonly known as Belt Scales, are used to weigh materials while being carried on conveyor belts. Since it is inefficient, labor intensive and not always possible to remove material from a conveyor belt, weigh the material, and then put the material back on the conveyor, many industries with conveyor belts, utilize belt scales to weigh their products. Belt scales are engineered to be installed on the conveyor belt.  The modular designs and broad range of options and equipment make belt scales viable in outdoor, indoor and warehouse settings. Belt scales can even work with limited clearance around the conveyor belts allowing ease of weighing in tightly confined areas.  Mining and aggregates are two industries weighing heavy bulky materials with belt scales, while smaller goods in manufacturing, food production and packaging sectors  also successfully weigh their products using belt scales . Quality Scales Unlimited offers the highest quality belt scales from domestic vendors who pride themselves in well built, dependable weighing equipment. The efficiency and accuracy of these scales can result in higher company profits and productivity.  Our knowledgeable sales team can help determine what belt scale options and features are needed for your business application.

Types of Belt Scales

To meet the unique requirements of different environments and industries, belt scales are available in a variety of specifications. Many of the industrial belt scales we offer come with the following standard features:

  • A large easy to read touch screen display
  • Quick access keys for simple operation
  • USB Memory data logging allowing quick and easy access to data
  • Cabled Modbus over or wireless Ethernet communication
  • PID Loop and Set Points for Blending Control

Our belt scales offer report generation and monitoring to manage production efficiency. These reports, which include graphs, provide information about down time, TPH range values as well as black belt time. Live and historical data are accessible and can be transmitted to the company server and then made accessible over the internet. Applications built to work with this data allow real-time monitoring of belt scale operations from anywhere in the world.

We offer the following types of belt scales:

  • Single & Multi Idler Scales

Single idler scales are the most cost effective belt scales, and are useful for tracking inventory of inexpensive products where the weigh bridge length is limited. These are the most commonly used belt scales. Single Idler scales are very popular on portable equipment. When weighing higher value products, multi idler scales are generally preferred. The variants available include dual, triple and quad, and with every increase in the number idler scales, there is a proportionate increase in the weighbridge size and accuracy. The products spend more time on the weighbridge, which gives more information for review and analysis.

Multi idler scales are used for faster moving belts where accurate sampling of the conveyor belt weight is extremely critical. The belt of a multi idler scale can move much faster than the single idler scale while providing very accurate weights.

  • Stainless Steel Scales

Conveyor belts are available in stainless steel to meet the needs of weighing in harsh and corrosive environments. Stainless steel conveyor belts are used extensively in salt mining, salt processing, fertilizer plants and other corrosive manufacturing.

  • Catenary Idler Scales

Catenary idler scales are used for conveyor belts where the idlers are hanging from the conveyor, not on it. Although the purpose of these scales is the same as typical belt scales, catenary idler scale design features are adjusted for the catenary idlers. These idler scales also hang from the conveyor in the same way as the conveyor’s idlers. By using the existing rollers, there is no need or cost for an additional conveyor.

  • In-Motion Belt Scales

Also known as in-motion checkweighers, these scales are designed for high volume where as much as 10,000 tons per hour can be accurately monitored. Most of them use an indicator that allows for precise control. The indicator system normally incorporates a number of standard features such as LCD display for information, bi-directional communication ports, optional analog and alarm outputs with password protection for added security and industry standard protocol cards such as Rockwell Automation’s DeviceNet, Remote I/O, Rockwell Automation’s Ethernet IP and Profibus DP. Many of these systems also include a ticket printing system that can be customized and comes with standard serial RS-232, RS-485, and 20mA current loop. Some in-motion belt weighing scale models feature two weighing platforms to improve accuracy.
