Truck Weighing Solutions

Quality Scales Unlimited offers a wide selection of electronic, state of the art truck scales in popular dimensions and varying capacities from top-quality manufacturers, many made with pride in the U.S.A. Our manufacturers offer full electronic design, using industry standard load cells instead of proprietary load cells offered by some manufacturers.

Rated for loads up to 100 tons, our truck scales are tested for concentrated load capacities (CLC) up to 50,000 lbs, some of the most heavy duty designs in the industry. Our steel-deck scales contain roughly 40,000 lbs of steel, compared to others whose decks weigh closer to 30,000 lbs. Additional steel ensures the truck scales are structurally stronger and more durable.

Each manufacturer has a somewhat different truck scale design and features. When shopping for a truck scale, we can assist you in selecting the truck scale best suited for your specific requirements, and if required, help adapt the scale to meet your specifications.

Some features and customizations include:

  • Above or below ground profiles
  • Custom dimensions
  • Concrete or steel decks
  • Portability frames
  • Guide rails
  • Manholes
  • Corrosion resistant load cells
  • Existing pit and foundation matching
  • Extreme weight capacities
  • Dump through modules

More peripheral equipment includes:

  • Automated ticketing kiosks
  • Remote displays, surveillance cameras
  • Weight indicators
  • Traffic controls
  • Ticket printers and more.

Above Ground or In Ground Foundation- How do I Decide?

Pacific-Northwest-Oil-Stockton-1Pacific-Northwest-Oil-Stockton-7

We install truck scales above ground with approach ramps, or in a pit, level with the surrounding terrain. The type of scale and foundation installation is dependent upon the location and the traffic pattern needed. Below is a comparison chart for the two types of foundations. Check out the chart or contact the Quality Scales Unlimited sales team to see what truck scale will work best for you!

In Ground Versus Above Ground

In Ground Foundation Above Ground Foundation
Cost More costly due to additional grading reinforced steel and concrete Less costly due to less construction and foundation work
Scale Service & Repairs In some cases more costly due to confined area restrictions which often require gas detection devices and operator safety harnesses to be used No confined space entry required; can be serviced from the deck of the scale
Cleaning Done manually; can be time consuming Quick and easy; done with a water hose or air compressor from the side of the scale
Scale Inspection Performed from inside the in ground pit Can be performed above ground
Restrictions or hazards Some states require specified clearances underneath the scale; may require compliance with OSHA and confined space regulations Some states have specified clearances required underneath the scale
Approaches 10 feet; flat and level Ramps
Ramp Requirements None needed; flat approach Typically ~20 feet on each end of the scale; requires more real estate to install and operate
Electrical Requirements Needed for sump pump if no gravity drain is present None; no sump pump or drainage needed

Portable Truck Scales

Quality Scales Unlimited offers portable truck scales from many domestic manufacturers. The portable truck scales we offer are engineered for legal for trade applications requiring ease in movement from job-to-job. These low profile scales are designed for ease of break down and reassembly and can be tailored to your business needs.

Portable truck scales are a great option for contractors working in different locations or temporary jobs requiring ease of transport, reliability, durable construction, and certified weights.

Axle Pads for Truck Weighing

Axle Pads

Quality Scales Unlimited offers a number of styles and manufacturers of axle pads. Axle pads are an economical, adaptable, and portable solution for vehicle and truck weighing. As with all of our truck and vehicle scales, durable construction sets our axle pads apart from the competition. (Axle pads are used to monitor overloaded and under loaded axle weight, but cannot be used to produce certified weights.)

Axle pad scales weigh the vehicle axle weight and are typically sold in pairs, but can also be sold in multiples to get the complete truck or trailer weight in one weighment. Portable axle scales are used with four on/off ramps for above ground installations. Axle scales are installed on flat surfaces, but may be used on gravel surfaces. Less common are permanent axle scales installations that are flush with concrete surroundings and installed in a pit.

Rice Lake Weighing Systems offers the AX 3040 axle scale which is a great solution to monitoring vehicle weights at temporary sites. They are easily portable, made of steel and available in multiple lengths. The AX 3040 is offered in capacities of 60,000 and 80,000 lbs and lengths of 7, 12 and 14 feet. If your axle pads will be located in a caustic environment, Rice Lake can provide a custom finish to withstand the environment. These flexible features and custom options make the AX 3040 an option for many businesses.

Massload Quality Weighing Systems also offers a variety of axle pad scale lengths which accommodate dual axle, tri-axle, and dual and tri-axle truck weighing. Massload axle pads accommodate load capacities of 60,000 and 80,000 lbs and boast a low 6” profile and forklift portability for ease of use. Quick disconnect cables also add to ease of moving.

If your business requires custom options for your axle pad needs, our sales team can help find a solution. One popular axle pad custom option is a steel channel frame. The axle pad frame includes two ramps and a steel channel section between the two axle pads. The steel channel frame design improves the accuracy and durability of the scale, and makes moving less cumbersome. The frame also functions as a solid barrier of protection for the cabling that runs between the scale pads.

All manufacturers of axle pad scales have somewhat different features and designs. It is always best to consult your scale service provider for the best solution to your weighing needs within your budget.

Custom Truck Scale Software

Quality Scales Unlimited can provide custom software applications to interface with your truck scale. We believe having the correct software to support your scales is essential to productivity and return on investment. Capabilities are endless, but many of our software programs include: truck ID numbering, order and assignment tracking and recall tare weights. We can provide software to support light capacity scales as well.

One of Quality Scales Unlimited’s widely distributed software programs allows printing of individual axle weights and a total of all axle weights. The process involves programming the indicator to instruct the driver to pull onto the scale and stop at the 1st axle. The 1st axle’s weight is then printed. This procedure is repeated until all axle weights have been registered and printed. Once all axles have been weighed, the custom program prints a total weight for the truck.
